- Two big waves: sales kick-offs in January–February, and year-end functions from mid-October to mid-December.
- Two dips: late March into April (long weekends plus Easter school holidays), and July (winter school holidays).
- The Rugby World Cup (1 Oct–13 Nov) lands on top of year-end season. Bok pool games are Sunday mornings SA time, so they create breakfast gigs rather than killing your Friday nights.
- Year-end diaries start filling in April. If you want those Friday and Saturday bookings, your profile needs to be live long before October.
- HowzitLive opens to corporate clients in January 2027, right as SKO season starts.
Howzit. If you've done corporate work for a while, you know the feeling: December you're turning gigs away, February you're wondering where everyone went, then it picks up again. The wave is predictable. Most vendors just don't plan for it.
This is the 2027 year as we see it from the B&W Productions side, where we produce corporate events across Gauteng and brief the vendors who work them. One honest disclaimer up front: the busy-or-quiet ratings below are our read of the typical pattern, built from supplier reports and the 2027 calendar. Nobody publishes hard numbers on Gauteng corporate bookings by month. The dates, though, are checked against official sources.

The 2027 vendor year at a glance
Read it like a weather forecast, not a promise. A big client can drop a conference into a quiet month any time. But for leave, rig servicing and rates, this is the shape to plan around.
Month by month: what's driving the work
| When | Typical vibe | What's happening | Your move |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jan–Feb | Busy | Sales kick-offs (most land in Q1), strategy sessions, new-year conferences. Schools back Wed 13 Jan. | Have your profile, clips and rates ready before New Year. |
| Feb | Busy, value pricing | SA20 cricket (17 Jan–21 Feb), Mining Indaba in Cape Town (8–11 Feb), Meetings Africa in Sandton (22–24 Feb). Ramadan expected to start around 7–8 Feb. | Caterers: get halaal and iftar-friendly menus on your profile. |
| Mar–Apr | Quiet patch | Long weekend 20–22 Mar, Easter 26–29 Mar, school holidays 20 Mar–5 Apr, Freedom Day bridge 26–27 Apr. | Service gear, shoot new content, chase year-end enquiries. |
| May–Jun | Ticking over | Conference season. Youth Day falls on Wed 16 Jun. Comrades (100th edition) is Sun 13 Jun. | Steady daytime work for AV, catering and MCs. |
| Jul | Quiet | Winter school holidays 26 Jun–19 Jul. Leave peak for parents. | Take your own break here, not in November. |
| Aug–Sep | Building | Women's Day long weekend (7–9 Aug), Heritage Day Fri 24 Sep. Awards, launches, AGMs. | Lock in your year-end calendar and confirm deposits. |
| Oct–Dec | Peak | Year-end functions from mid-October, Rugby World Cup to 13 Nov, Black Friday 26 Nov, schools close 9 Dec. | Protect Thu–Sat nights, quote clearly, show up early. |

The waves, explained
Wave 1: SKO season (January–February)
Sales kick-offs are the first paycheck of the year. Vendor guides put most SKOs in Q1, January–February, to line up with the start of the financial year, and planners usually start 16–20 weeks out. That means the client is choosing suppliers in October and November 2026, while you're flat out with year-ends. Have your profile ready now. SKOs love DJs with walk-up music for award winners, MCs who can run a tight agenda, and caterers who can do a working lunch for 300 without drama. Our SKO guide for vendors goes deeper.
One upside for clients is also an upside for you: February is a cheaper venue month, so budgets stretch further on entertainment and production.
The dip: late March to April
2027 stacks its long weekends early. Human Rights Day falls on a Sunday, so Monday 22 March is off. Easter follows straight after (Good Friday 26 March, Family Day 29 March), inside the school holidays. Then 26 April is a school holiday next to Freedom Day on Tuesday 27 April, so plenty of people will take a four-day bridge. Corporate clients avoid all of this for anything that needs full attendance. Expect a soft month.
The winter lull: July
Winter school holidays run from 26 June to 19 July. Rates for venues drop, but so does attendance, so fewer big corporate events get booked. This is your window for leave, rig maintenance and crew training.
Wave 2: year-end peak (mid-October to mid-December)
This is the big one. Supplier reports say the year-end function peak runs mid-October to mid-December, with Thursday to Saturday nights filling first, and that top entertainment diaries start filling in April. AV and production companies get booked out from October to December. If you're a mobile bar or food truck, sort your paperwork early too: read our liquor permit guide for mobile bars and food trucks, because a permit headache in November costs you the gig.
The Rugby World Cup wildcard
The 2027 Rugby World Cup runs in Australia from 1 October to 13 November, right over year-end season. Good news: the Springbok pool games kick off on Sunday mornings or midday SA time (about 05:45 on 3 Oct, 08:45 on 10 Oct and 13:15 on 17 Oct), so they don't clash with Friday and Saturday night functions. The final is Saturday 13 November at about 11:00 SAST. Expect clients to ask for breakfast and brunch screenings: big screens, coffee bars, breakfast catering, an MC with energy at 08:00. Put "big-screen sport viewing" on your profile if you can deliver it.
Plan your availability
- Block your peak first. Mark every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from mid-October to mid-December as premium in your own calendar before anyone books you cheap.
- Take leave in the dips. July and the Easter fortnight are when clients book least.
- Watch the long weekends. Fridays and Mondays next to a holiday rarely carry full-attendance corporate events.
- Mind the culture calendar. Ramadan from around 7–8 February, Rosh Hashanah 1–3 October, Yom Kippur 10–11 October and Diwali around 28–29 October all affect timings and menus. Confirm locally.
- Get your safety paperwork in order before the big season. Our SASREA guide for vendors covers what organisers will ask for.
Pricing and cash flow
On HowzitLive you set your own rates, and that matters most in peak season. A few principles we see working:
- Price the calendar, not just the hour. A Saturday in late November isn't the same product as a Tuesday in July. Many vendors publish a peak rate and an off-peak rate. Be upfront about which dates are which.
- Offer value in the quiet months. A sharper January–March or July rate helps clients say yes when they have budget and you have gaps.
- Plan for the January gap in your bank account. Year-end work finishes mid-December. On HowzitLive, payouts land the Friday after each event, so most December gigs pay out before the shutdown, but SKO money only flows once those events happen in late January and February. Budget for it.
- Don't over-commit in peak. One no-show in November undoes years of reputation.

Frequently asked questions
When is the busiest time for corporate event vendors in Gauteng?
The typical peak is year-end function season, from mid-October to mid-December, with Thursday to Saturday nights filling first. January–February is a second busy period because of sales kick-offs.
Which months are quiet for corporate gigs in 2027?
Typically late March to April and July. In 2027 late March has a long weekend (20–22 March) followed by Easter (26–29 March) inside the school holidays, and July is the winter school break (26 June–19 July).
Does the 2027 Rugby World Cup clash with year-end functions?
Mostly not. The Springbok pool matches kick off on Sunday mornings or around midday in South African time, and the final is on Saturday 13 November at about 11:00 SAST. That tends to create daytime screening gigs rather than cancel evening functions.
When should I be ready for year-end bookings?
Supplier reports say top entertainment diaries start filling in April for October–December. Have your HowzitLive profile, clips and rates live well before then.
When do I get paid for HowzitLive gigs?
Payouts land the Friday after each event. Listing is free and you set your own rates.
When does HowzitLive open to corporate clients?
January 2027, at the start of sales kick-off season. Profiles submitted now are reviewed and ready for launch.
